How do I fix my lawn?

September 21st, 2010

It has been a brutal summer for those of us with lawns and no irrigation systems.  The heat and lack of rain for 8 weeks made brown lawns and dirt patches the norm.  So what do you do now?

Well, the good news is that Fall is the best time to fix your lawn.  Getting some root growth before the first frost and then letting the lawn “sleep” all winter will make for spectacular results next spring.

The key to growing grass is water…..and more water and more water.   Last year, on the advise of an Organic Landscape Company, I topdressed my lawn with Earl’s Organic Compost.  It worked wonders.  Our Super Loam is another terrific alternative.  Earl’s Organic Compost is unique in that it retains moisture much better than loam does.  Thus, when growing a lawn, where moisture is needed 24/7, Earl’s Organic Compost is a great option.  I strongly suggest it.

Just spread the Earl’s Organic Compost on the top of your existing lawn or in the bare spots and then spread the seed.  Water the lawn at least once per day.  The grass should begin growing within a few days and thicken over the next 10 days.

Earl’s Organic Compost is truly a great product.

It is not too late to mulch

July 15th, 2010

While the weather may be oppressively hot, we are still making and shipping mulch every day.   Earlier this week, we shipped 65 yards to a happy customer on Summer Street in Norwell.  Mulching is very important especially in summers like this where there is little rain.  Mulch helps to lock the in the moisture around your plants.  So, if you have not mulched yet this year, it is not too late!

While we continue to manufacture mulch every day, we are also splitting firewood as well.  At Go Green, we try to stay at least 6 months ahead of every season.  This means that we are thinking about mulch in October and firewood in May.  We will have a huge supply of  seasoned and kiln dried firewood this fall so give us a call.

Go Green is very thankful to all of the landscapers and professionals who have made the switch to Go Green from our competitors.  We are proud to be the largest manufacturer of mulch and soil amendments in Scituate and the ONLY landscape supply company in Hanover.  We certainly could not do it without the loyalty and trust of all of the professional landscapers.   If you look around at the dump trucks that you see at job sites, beautifying the homes in your town, you can feel confident that nearly all of them are getting their products from Go Green!  Again, thanks to all of you.  Landscapers move a lot of product and are a very important part of our business.

Lastly, we are proud to say that we generated more revenue in June 2010 than any other June since I started in this business nearly a decade ago.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of our retail customers.  Your loyalty and interest in our products has been fantastic and fills us with pride.

We can’t say thank you enough,

Tim Lopes

Another Day in Paradise…

May 21st, 2010

Wow, what a day! With the help of number of our friends with dump trucks, we were able to complete well over 100 deliveries today…and tomorrow looks even busier. Thanks to all who helped out!

We have been selling a lot of Organic Dark Mulch this year, more than ever, it seems.  Last year we, admittedly, had an issue with trashy raw materials that, in spite of our best efforts to fix, left some trash in the mulch. We sincerely apologize. Please call and ask for Tim if you were affected. Now, however,  we have complete control of our raw materials, and the Organic Dark Mulch that we make is coming out dark, fine and clean. What a difference! We have shipped over 3000 yards to homeowners in the past three weeks. So much so that we need to make more for next week! Bring on the Grinder!

Also, we have been making Jet Black at a record pace. Jet Black is made with lots of water and with powdered carbon which is 100% non-toxic to people, plants and animals. It is hard to believe that three short years ago we did NOT EVEN SELL BLACK MULCH!! And now, it is the choice of most landscapers and many homeowners.

We have been going through two to three tractor trailer loads of the Earl’s Compost per week. This is black gold and the best compost that I have ever seen. If your gardens or lawn need a little shot of something good, then add some Earl’s in there. I top dressed my lawn with it last year and was amazed at how well it held water and how green the grass grew.

Lastly, we have an aerator and a dethatcher in our Scituate yard that we are renting to the public. They are both very easy to use and we are happy to help you get them in your car or to deliver them to you. Both do a terrific job of getting your lawn ship shape.

Well, time to get ready for another long and fun Saturday. We hope to make all of our customers happy with great products, on time deliveries, and service with a smile. We know that without our loyal customers, we would be nothing!

Thanks to all,

Tim

May 1st to be an epic Saturday

April 30th, 2010

Well, it is Friday April 30th around 10pm and I am just shutting down for the evening. We already have over 200 deliveries to make tomorrow and nearly 300 yards of Organic Dark Mulch to ship out.  We spent the better part of today making product to be sure that we can fulfill the orders, and I will be back at 167 Driftway tomorrow at 5am to begin preparing for the deliveries.

All of us at Go Green! are thrilled at the response to our flyers. Although times are still tough, our loyal customers continue to step up and beautify their yards. I was talking to my dad tonight and we both agree that we have never seen so many orders of 8, 10, 12 and even 14+ yards of mulch before. One gentleman even ordered 46 yards of Hemlock for his house today!!

Thanks to all! We will be on time tomorrow and you will not be disappointed!

Go Green! named as one of “Top 50 Landscaping Blogs”!

April 26th, 2010

Well, in addition to making and delivering great products, our new and improved website blog has recently been named as one of the Top 50 Landscaping Blogs:

http://www.homeownersinsurance.org/top-50-landscaping-blogs/

While we are more excited about our great products and services, it is always good to be recognized for something a little out of the norm.  Thank you!

Also, thank you to all of our great customers who purchased this past week.  This Saturday was the biggest volume day of the year by far.  We received many referral orders this weekend.  We are proud that our mulches, loam and amazing Earl’s Organic Compost continue to get great compliments from our customers.

The weather looks a little unsettled for this week but we will be out there making and delivering our great products with a smile, seven days a week.

April Brings Mulch Requests

April 6th, 2010

The first weekend of April was a great success for us! Many people ordered their mulch for the Easter weekend, and the weather was absolutely perfect for it. Special thanks to the Curran family who had 25 yards of Dark Organic Mulch delivered yesterday!

Firewood processing and Jet Black Mulch manufacturing was in full force today. Aside from an issue with the tires on the bucket loader in our Hanover yard, yesterday was great and ridiculously productive. It was fun to have Amanda back running the show in Scituate!!

And here’s a little personal side to the company – a picture of us driving the truck in the Scituate parade on St. Patrick’s Day. Thanks to Melissa for passing it on!

It Was Just Another Rainy Monday…

March 23rd, 2010

The rain yesterday put a damper on production as we were only able to produce about 100 yards of loam. Guess that’s what you get when it’s still March, huh? However, despite the gloomy and wet weather, we were able to make a number of deliveries and to continue to get the Hanover site in shape to open this weekend. We have 1000s of yards of mulch ready to ship and are still shipping firewood to our loyal customers!

Are you looking to order your firewood early (for the best price!), or perhaps are ready to start mulching your lawn? Check out our Products Page for all our eco-friendly products and prices!

Scituate’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade

March 22nd, 2010

Well, it was a week late but it was still great to ride in the Scituate St. Patrick’s Day parade for the 8th straight year! So many people yelled nice things to me, Allie, Nate and Brennan. The kids love riding in the truck and yelling to their friends. The banner on the front of the truck said, “Go Green is paying the Town of Scituate over $600,000 to recycle your brush. Thank you for purchasing products from us.” Most people did not realize that Go Green! pays so much money for the right to recycle all of the green waste at our site on the Driftway!

For our customers who couldn’t make it to the parade, again we’d like to say THANK YOU for all your support!

Who We Are

Go Green! Landscape Supply was founded in 2008 by South Shore native Tim Lopes. Tim worked in Corporate America for years, traveling all over the globe for his job, but often wondered if there was something more he could be doing, for his family, his town, and the world. In 2001 he left the business world and entered the local green recycling industry where he felt he could really make an impact. Seven short years later, he founded his own company to further make a difference. Go Green! Landscape Supply is now the South Shore’s leading supplier of mulch, loam, stone, firewood and other eco-friendly landscape supply products.

What We Do

Using the latest green recycling technology, we turn one man’s trash into another man’s treasure. We take grass, leaves, brush, stumps, trimmings, etc. and recycle them into the hearty products we sell. We have a great partnership with the town of Scituate that allows residents to drop off their green waste with us at no charge. This saves residents money, and saves the town money as well because it’s keeping it local rather than shipping it out to recycle!

Our Mission

Our mission is to help people beautify their yards and help the planet by doing it through recycling green waste.
